The Rain on the Tyne...
... it's all mine, all mine.
Indeed.
Off down to that Newcastle on the 10am LNER. It was actually mostly quite a fine day but we were caught in a downpour crossing the Tyne. As you see.
For we were there to take in the retrospective of Franki Raffles at the Baltic before it closes this weekend. She’d been prominent at StA in feminist politics when I was there and then even more so with her photography for Edinburgh’s Zero Tolerance campaign before her untimely death in 1994. A terrific exhibition; I was particularly taken by Lot’s Wife which she was working on at the time of her death and only exists in a fragmentary form.
Prior to that we were given a personal tour by Steve, one of the guides, of Mani Kambo’s exhibition. Let’s just say he’d certainly soaked it all in and it was hard not to be impressed by his enthusiasm. And then we got a free poster of the Franki Raffles exhibition from the guy at the front desk - see that SK, she knows how to charm all the old boys.
A pot of tea in the cafe and home.
