Cowes Week Fireworks
On the penultimate evening of Cowes week the party moved out into the Solent when hundreds of boats of all types surrounded the harbour as the sun went down to watch the magnificent Red Arrows give a spectacular display.
Thousands of spectators ashore and afloat then waited expectantly as darkness fell as a countdown of boat klaxons signalled the start of a massive firework display set to music relayed from the PA systems and Cowes Radio.
At the conclusion of the display which could be seen all along the South Coast around Southampton hundreds of ships horns joined in the applause to end what had been a magical evening. All the crews then returned to their moorings to no doubt continue the partying into the early hours.
Looking at the massive traffic jams trying to get out I was very pleased I live close enough to walk home.
