Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Day 6 of Vacation/Holiday

We are a great BIG 40 miles from home--vacationing in a lovely home loaned to us by friends. They inherited it a couple years ago when an elderly aunt died. This home has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living room, formal dining room, and roomy kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, and informal dining area, and a washer and dryer in the garage. We are two miles from the sand at the Pacific Ocean in Huntington Beach--Surf City USA. They even said no problem with bringing Bob Dog along. When desiring not to spend lots of money, vacation life doesn't get much better than this, does it?

So do you know what we're dealing with? The Rambuncuous feelings of no one telling us what to do or when. Rambuncuous basically means highly stimulated but bored! Doing nothing is so opposite of what we're used to doing. So getting out to ride the tandem bicycle every morning is therapy--it is not only helping with our dieting and weight loss, it is also wearing us out so that we don't have the constant "I gotta go; I gotta do" mentality. The "Hey, what do you want to do?" "I don't know, what do you want to do?" We need to learn how to just "be" without always being entertained. Does anyone connect with that concept?

So we pedaled approximately 24 miles this morning. Today's photo collage displays a little of what we viewed. It's always fun to see our shadow (stupid, huh!). The bike path through Bolsa Chica Beach north of Huntington gets a little sandy because each afternoon the wind kicks up. Once we arrived at Sunset Beach we saw this custom VW Bus combo with Bug, which caught Mr. Fun's attention. In our years of marriage we have owned 3 VW Bugs and 1 VW Bus, so we stopped to stare for a few minutes--the license plates were from the state of Maine. The last scene is a small turnout on a new bridge of a tidal inlet between Huntington and Bolsa Chica. We exited the house about 8:00 this morning and returned about 11:00. By the end of the ride we weren't having much fun--his arms were going numb and my hands were. The pain of sitting on the bicycle seat doesn't even need mentioning I'm sure. Getting back into shape is a lot of work--but we're determined.

This evening we're going to Laguna Beach to see the art and hear the music at Festival of Arts/Pageant of the Masters -- the band "The Girls" will be playing. It is a lovely place to spend an evening. Our daughter, Dede, might meet us there.

At the very moment I am so thankful for the Laguna Beach Public Library and their free WiFi. So that's how it is going for these two here in Southern California on this first Wednesday in August. Again, thanks to everyone who continues to comment, even when I am not able to.
