Framed by Fall
Do you remember the old song...Where have all the flowers sandhills gone...long time passing? I just haven't seen many this year. I'll add them to my growing list of haven't seens. Bees, butterflies, cardinals, blue jays, chickadees, and now sandhill cranes. Makes you wonder.
But, lo and behold...cranes I did see. Maybe a dozen. Now...the next question. When I get out of my truck...why do they squawk, and then walk away? Walking away aside...that is the best bird squawk in nature...perhaps tied with the trumpeter swan. It's like a good symphony.
Looking for more cranes, I came upon an old barn...where there were 6 turkey vultures hangin out. This guy was at the apex...top of the hill...the king of the mountain. One youngster did try to take him off his perch...only to be pecked away.
One last question. A mile down the road...there was a rafter of turkeys. Real gobble-gobble turkeys. Here's the question. Will turkey vultures eat turkeys?
Answer...Yes, but only if they're smashed in the road.
Turkey vultures. Natures garbage disposal. And...they do it well.
A few more shots on my FLICKR PAGE. Horses, and more vultures.
