Poirot Island

We went on a brilliant road trip today, taking in some of the stunning beaches around South Devon. We started at Salcombe, where we saw our first sea tractor of the day. We had a play on the beaches, and it was so warm we sat outside with a cup of tea and an ice cream. We then moved on to Bigbury-on-sea, which is perhaps better known as the location of a Poirot mystery; Agatha Christie was a big fan of the beautiful hotel on the island. It really felt like we were on holiday; the sun came out and the scenery is completely stunning. Unfortunately the tide was out, so we didn't get to have a ride on the sea tractor, but we had a roll and pint sitting outside the pub; watching dogs and dreaming of staying in the hotel. Returning to Exeter we left a chilli cooking in the oven whilst we went to the pub, and then fought through post-dinner sleep with a few more drinks in town. I hadn't really thought about what to expect from Exeter, and everywhere we were shown was so lovely. It has some brilliant pubs, and a really relaxed atmosphere; a lot of it reminded me of Brighton from years ago.
