Ti kouka

Spikes of tiny creamy white flowers with soft pink buds against the blue sky, a fragrance so sweetly scented drifting by in the light breeze and little honey bees buzzing excitedly - the NZ Cabbage Tree or Ti kouka in flower.

In spring and early summer our NZ Cabbage Tree produces large dense flower spikes up to 1 metre (3 feet) long. Each spike bears 5,000 to 10,000 sweetly perfumed white flowers and may produce up to 40,000 seeds. The fruit is a white berry which is eaten by birds and the nectar attracts great numbers of insects to the flowers.

Lovely to be home again :)
