For the wrong reason

This photo is a failure. It is not 'tack sharp'. But not because of what you are thinking. You are thinking that it is failure due to camera shake by the photographer (me).

But no. It is a failure because, among other things, there is actually not enough movement. It was a really blustery day and far too cold to be messing about in the snow and a minus temperature, in very light shoes, no coat, and with fingers beginning to crack and drop off. I was I trying an experiment. If I found a suitable tree 'blowing in the wind', maybe I could catch the movement in a still photograph — a parallel of those when you use a long exposure with water, maybe the waves of the sea or the movement of a waterfall. But it didn't work. But when an experiment fails, it isn't the end. Either you have proved it was a flawed idea — or you need to try again, varying the parameters. That's the scientific method. Maybe when I am next in the same position, I will try with a rather longer exposure… Or maybe not. But the Blip has to go on…
