On the sixth day of Christmas...

On the sixth day of Christmas I've blipped these paper geese.
Had fun this afternoon making these origami geese. Did nt have the opportunity to go out looking for real ones and I did nt see any fly over so I had to use my initiative.

Apparently Mother Goose is one of the pantomimes that seems to be suffering with others like Peter Pan and Snow White taking over. The poor old Dame when a male dresses up as a rather comical female is starting to take a back seat as well as the 'principle boy' played by a female. Seems a shame as these are part of the tradition.

We went to see 'Mother Goose ' staring the Chuckle brothers in 1996 in Birmingham when we stayed in the Belfry Hotel for Christmas. It was brilliant, very funny and very well produced.

The story is probably the oldest one to be turned into a pantomime. Dating back to Ancient Greece with a tell about a goose that laid golden eggs. The panto is about Mother goose, the dame, who owns a goose which is usually called 'Priscilla' . She wants to be young and beautiful and although she loves Priscilla she gives her up to enter the pool of youth. Mistake ! Her friends want the old Mother Goose back and after much discussion she gets Priscilla back. The moral of the tale is that Beauty and wealth cannot bring you happiness !

A goose also appears in Jack and the Beanstalk belonging to the Giant, although it is sometimes a hen and also in the Aesops' fable 'The Goose and the golden eggs' when a farmer becomes so greedy he kills the goose thinking there will be a lot of golden eggs inside. He is mistaken and looses everything.

We still have snow but a cold, dry day and some sun. Weather station is still working even tough it's at a funny angle.

Sad news about Nelson Mandela but it's been lovely to see people celebrating his life. Sounds like he was a wonderful man who made a difference !
