Schoolhouse

The Ardena Public School No. 2 is a one-room schoolhouse that offers a window back in time.
After our weekly workout together, my sister had to drive her son to work so she drove me around the area where she lives helping me to find a good Blip for today. We came across this ‘Little House on the Prairie’ type schoolhouse from the 1800’s. The little white schoolhouse is open to the public once a month. There is a tattered school register from the 1894-95 school year. The register showed that the teacher was paid $450 per year! She had a classroom of 60 students who ranged in age from 5 to 20 years old. During winter months like today, she would get to the school early to get a fire started in the potbelly stove, so the building would be warm for the students.
Many small one-room schoolhouses have been turned into local museums. I think it’s great to have this glimpse into the past.
