Pen-y-Ghent
Today I ventured down into Malham, a nostalgic journey in many ways as I had walked this part of the dales many times when younger. I drove through Hawes towards Ingelton, then turned at Horton-in-Ribblesdale, took some pics of the viaduct but couldn't crack it. Then onwards towards Langcliffe then towards Malham Tarn, then Cove and resting at the village of Malham where a light lunch was enjoyed in The Old Barn Cafe. Bought a mug from the cafe for my collection, then brief trip upto Gordale Scar before returning via Arncliffe to Kettlewell and a similar route back as yesterday.
It was interesting to reflect at Malham, how this had once been the place I would come and walk, on difficult terrain at times and now I simply could not even attempt it. A slight regret really but I know my limitations and it is great to see those sights knowing I have walked them and recalling the magnificent views. I recall at Gordale Scar taking my children up there when they were early teens and worrying all the way up whether they would slip and fall. They didn't!
So a lovely day, you can cover some ground in the car and I have not over taxed myself so looking forward to a couple of beers, another nice dinner and perhaps some more inspiration on the writing front. I did not make a lot of progress today. I had a disturbed night and felt a little tired this morning coupled with a forecast that threatened afternoon rain, though this did not materialise, and so I left early.
For more pics please look on my Facebook site. I have tried to link. Hope it works. More pics up there later tonight.
