Kitsch or naff
A few days ago when I first arrived at the hotel I described a few of the items decorating the hotel as a bit naff. Well I decided to update them to 'kitsch' as I wanted to feature one in my blip today. This gayly coloured reindeer which I am assured is not just a Christmas decoration usually stands in the garden just by the bar.
But last night because rain was threatening he was brought inside as his coat of many colours is in fact comprised of pieces of fabric which no doubt would have taken ages to dry if they had got wet. Fortunately the rain never arrived which was lucky as we had booked to dine in one of Alacati's more upmarket restaurants and the meal was served in an open courtyard. It was fascinating to see the guests arriving and asking to be seated in sheltered areas under a bamboo screen or under the trees. I suspect the bamboo screen would not have given a lot of protection had it really rained hard.
Yesterday was another beach day in Ilica and the owner of the hotel kindly offered to take us to a nice part of the beach as he was going down there to do his morning power walk with a friend. The beach which is massive, more than a kilometre long was practically deserted. Lunch proved a bit difficult as no one spoke any English but we eventually established that the choice was between burgers and a Turkish equivalent which uses their rather red sausage meat. Still the evening the evening meal made up for his as the choice of mezes was amazing including a lot of dishes we had. not encountered before. One if them was nettle balls which, of course, we had to try and they were delicious.
