Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Shopping with Sis

My sis and I look nothing alike in some ways and in other ways those looking realize we're sisters.

She's always been taller than I am; she was born a blonde and I am brunette; she is fair skinned and I've always been olive skinned. It was in our physical education class in high school when she was a senior and I was a sophomore, that other girls would ask if she was my sister. I would response with a curious "why would you ask?" and they would say that we were shaped alike.

Today the two of us went back to Orange County to a shopping area called "The District" in Tustin where the Whole Foods Market is and it's the place we stopped late Monday afternoon. We both agreed that we wanted to spend more time there.

Once there we walked through the TJ Max department store before going to Whole Foods. We had fun in both places and probably bought a little too much at each place. We found dinner plates in TJ Max that look like the ones that Grammie Teele used to use, so I took a quick photo. My sis likes organic foods, whole grains, soy products, and goat cheese. We walked past the bakery sections and she grabbed a loaf of killer bread, so I snuck a photo of the display.

We got home mid-afternoon and the snacking began with spring rolls, spring tofu rolls, cucumber rolls, tabuli, and lots of other healthy goodies. Okay, we did get some yummy cookies (my sis keeps saying "we are on vacation so it's okay!"). As evening arrived I stepped into the backyard to capture the house full of light and it was certainly full of food. We had snacked so much that we skipped dinner, and since Mr. Fun wouldn't be home to eat, skipping was okay.

This evening we watched President Obama's State of the Union speech and also had a visit from daughter Deidre and her hubby John plus their two dogs Patches and Katie (who had originally lived at my sister's home in Portland).

So that's our day -- nothing outstanding or award winning -- just a day of 2 sisters sharing memories and making more.

Good night from Southern California.
