Lifeguards
It was a beautiful beach day today. Apparently the entire state of New Jersey thought so too because the traffic getting there was unbelievable. Eventually we arrived there and met up with friends and family.
We had lunch on the beach and relaxed in the sun with a little shade from our umbrellas when the sun got to hot. There was a nice breeze off the ocean. We spent hours talking and I took lots of pictures.
Everyday when the lifeguards go off duty at 5 p.m., they blow their whistle to notify everyone in the water that they will be leaving and it was swim at your own risk once they left. Then they climb down from the tall wooden structure and three or four of them lift this huge wooden chair and carry it further up onto the beach away from the water and lay it down on it's side in the sand.
I figured I'd catch them in the act. Everyone sitting on the beach usually stops and watches them anyway so I didn't think they would mind my camera aimed in their direction.
We didn't leave the beach after the lifeguards went off duty. We stayed for another hour or so and then went over to my sister's house for a swim and BBQ. It's been nice to be outdoors the entire day and evening. I didn't get home until 11 p.m. The weather cooled off quite a bit this evening. We might even be able to turn off the Air Conditioning and open the windows.
