Blood swept lands and seas of red

The poppies at the Tower of London are certainly impressive.

There will be 888,246 hand-made ceramic poppies filling the moat, each one representing a British Military death during the First World War, which broke out 100 years ago.

I went to London to meet some friends for lunch and arrived deliberately early, with my cameras, to experience this amazing tribute.

Even though the area filled quickly with thousands and thousands of tourists, it didn't lose the dignity and the beauty.

I took lots of photos - some close up of the poppies - some of the innocent little sparrows landing on them - some of Beefeaters - some of volunteers - and some which captured the Shard in the distance.

But I decided to try and give an idea of the immensity and the size of the installation.

It will be taken down late November, but is well worth a visit.
