Day 3: Reykjavik - Fljotstunga Farm

We did pretty well picking up the car and getting out of Reykjavik on our hangovers, but the open road soon cleared our heads. It was so good to get out into the stunning countryside. We did the Golden Circle today- stopping at the crater lake Kerid, then on to Geysir (strangely familiar), then the far more impressive and powerful Gullfoss waterfall. A drive through the majestic Thingvellir park lead us on to what would turn out to be one of the worst roads of the trip; we were certainly in at the deep end but our Jimny just about managed it. It did mean we were far later than we anticipated arriving at our home for the night; Flotstunga Travel Farm. The restaurant in the nearest village shut three hours before, but the Farm were kind enough to give us some of the breakfast bread, and we had cucumber and crisps left from our picnic lunch, so we feasted in our cabin. The whole farm had such a nice atmosphere. We stayed just before it closed for guests over the winter and turned into an artists retreat. I can't think of a better place to inspire creativity, nestled in the cabins amongst the lava fields.
