Today's the day ........................ to reconstruct

We went to a very moving exhibition today in the small village of Pressins. Well - it was more than an exhibition - it was a reconstruction of the trenches of the 1st World War and a glimpse into the horrors that were to be found there.

Of course, the actual trenches would have been way to the north between Calais, La Somme and the Swiss frontier - but it was the idea of the local inhabitants of the village to commemorate the Centenary of the start of the 1914-18 War. They had dug the trenches and found innovative ways of making it very easy to imagine yourself to be at the front line.

It was a sobering experience especially when you were confronted with stark statistics - such as the total number of people killed was around 10M.....................
