......the death song....

So, finally.....what Jack walker started with Blackburn Rovers (although to be fair to the man he was just putting his money into his home town team that he supported all his life)....and was carried on by Abramovich at Chelsea...has finally come to pass at Manchester City...the highest honour in English football bought by the man with the biggest wallet.

And before you accuse me of being a bitter United fan consider this.....

Yes United have bought big name players...but only two or three a season to strengthen the team...not an entire squad of mercenaries.

Yes United have spent big money..........but money earned by success, gate receipts and merchandising....not the loose change of a Sugar Daddy.

With the exception of one player City have no home grown talent....and he isn't a regular first team player......United, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, even Arsenal have home grown players...or players who came as youngsters and have been developed.

How many of United's team do you imagine as small boys or young players starting out in their professional careers dreamed of playing for United when they were older? Or Chelsea's team...or Liverpool's....or Arsenal....or Spurs...or Everton. Now.... how many of the current Champions do you think dreamt of playing for City as young boys/men?....and how many do you think suddenly decided they'd like to play for them once the petro-dollars started flowing?

And then consider this.....last year all the City fans of my aquaintance declared they didn't finish third..."because it's only goal difference....we're joint second really"...how many of them will be saying they finished joint first this year "because it's only goal difference".

And as for that goal difference....United have not played well all season...while the Noisy Neighbours have declared time and time again that they have played the best football all season...so how good is your best if you can only win by goal difference over a team who haven't been playing well?

But the really worrying thing for me is the damage they are doing to the National team....they have players like Milner, Richards and Barry who are supposed to be good English players and the cornerstone of our National team once the older ones retire...but what sort of preparation is it to play for your country if you are not a first choice player for your club....an England team relying on reserve players!

How desperate do you have to be to win that you declare that a player who refused to come on as a substitute in an important game...and then ran away for months...will never play for you again...but then welcome him back with open arms when the going gets tough?

If it's true that they are going on another mega spending spree this summer to add to the over 930 million they've already spent then it really is the end for the rest of the teams not only in the Premiership but also in the lower divisions who can never hope to match that spending power.

Rant over...I'm gutted that we were Champions for two minutes this afternoon and then lost it...but I'm glad that my team plays the game properly, the manager is in charge and the players want to win trophies, not just grab huge pots of money.

Das vidanya moy padruga.
