Day Six...Da Lights

We visited 4 Lighthouses today. We would have bagged six, but time and distance forced us to cut a couple out.

As some of you know, the United States has what we call state quarters. (A coin...a quarter of a dollar...25 cents.) The individual states (50 of them) get to choose what scene is on the back of their quarter.

Maine's choice was this lighthouse...Pemaquid Point. It is set on a long rocky outcropping...beside the crashing surf.

The surf usually leaves some nice puddles behind, and you can use the water for reflective purposes. You  pose your model (my Dad), lay yourself flat down on the rock, and snap away.

The only problem? The wind was quite strong today, and the water was rippling WAY too much.

We saw Owls Head, Port Clyde (the lighthouse that was used in the Forest Gump movie), this light, and finished with Nubble Light.

Nothing quite like the sea and nothing quite like The Old Man and the Sea.

After a late seafood feast, we decided to head for home. We drove on various state turnpikes for 300 miles, eventually stopping at midnight, and spending the night (back in the van) at a rest area in New York state.
