The Princess and the Dog

A Listening Ear

Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,

The Youngest Mini Princess had bad stomach cramps at school and went to the welfare office feeling rubbish.

When she got there, the welfare assistant was just drying her eyes. She told YMP that she is fed up with not seeing her friends and they had a chat. I now know:

The number, gender and ages of her children

Where she lives.

She has a good teacher friend (in the PE dept) who lives in the same street with his fiancée.

Her extended family are now in a different tier so she can’t see them at all.

She has almost finished her Christmas shopping (just a couple of vouchers to go).

That when the pubs sold alcohol and could open until 10 pm, nights out were much cheaper because she could get the bus home relatively sober instead of a taxi when she was steaming.

That it’s a nightmare on a teachers night out when they’re all hammered and they bump into pupils/ex-pupils.

Although I did laugh at the irony of YMP going to welfare and being the one giving support, it was also a sad reminder of how abnormal our current normal is.

PS YMP was fine after coming home and having painkillers.
