Diary of an Edinburgher

Stuck in the middle...

What a day! Wind and rain. I texted Robert and advised him to stay in bed, not to come for Archie, and he didn’t argue this time.

JR had an early zoom gym bunnies session at 9am, and I managed a bike ride and another episode of Spiral. But by the time we’d been fed and coffee’d it was sunny but blowing a hoolie. In fact, the big communal bin from across the road came whooshing across and bashed into the neighbour’s car. When they’re empty, they’re light, and the flappy lid is lifted in the wind and they take off like a sailing boat.

JR and I attempted to push it back over the road. Well, we got stuck in the middle of the road - it was heavier than we thought - but fortunately a passerby came and helped us.

JR had a collection at Waitrose, so Archie and I set off to walk there with her. But it was SO windy - branches and garden bins all over the road - that Archie and I decided to go home again.

A bit of a disaster in the afternoon. Somebody had put a half empty tin of wood stain on top of the shed to hold down a corner of the fake grass roof. It had flipped up ages ago, and instead of adding a couple of nails at the time, I (yes, it was me) had just plonked a tin of paint on the corner. And what happened in the wind? The tin of paint was blown off, burst open, and poured out all over the pavers!!

And so we had to go out, in the rain, and swish it all away. JR was NOT happy. (Yes, I did hammer in a few nails. Better late than never).

Our First Minister, known affectionately by some, as ‘Wee Nippy’ has declared that non-essential shops, gyms etc can re-open on 26th April. That’s more than two months away!

Archie is heading for a haircut. Soon. Very soon.
