Sewing with 4 and 5 year olds!

Today I did another session with some of the children in the reception classes at my grandchildren’s  primary school. Having volunteered to help with costumes if they needed anyone re a school assembly/ play I was asked instead to ‘help’ children with ‘sewing’. Having taught in a secondary school this was very different! The task designed by the teacher was quite difficult for them and needed some modification…I put spots on where they had to put the needle in. Very interesting to see the range of motor skills, concentration( or lack of) and general understanding of the task in hand. One little girl was brilliant and it transpired that her grandmother had already done some sewing with her at home.

This is meant to be a sun and then they will either put their initials or a face inside the circle. A few other parents have also been helping with this as it takes ages with each …lots of wool coming out of needles and wrong stitching to be unpicked and redone…and there are nearly 60 children in total.

Interesting to see my Grandchildren’s  friends that they sometimes talk about!
