A Day For the Birds

The image of goldfinches in the backyard reminds me of old botanical illustrations. These birds are certainly entertaining to watch.

The osprey is a different story. Not entertaining, but awe-inspiring. What a magnificent creature! There was a lot of hoopla on the trail this morning: The Ironman Race  (1 mile ocean swim, 56 mile bike ride, and a 13 mile run--quite an ordeal, even for a spectator). The osprey usually hangs out higher up on the cliffs, but I imagine he was trying for a little peace and quiet to contemplate his next fish.
