Take Me Home, Country Roads

By the time we got up, showered, had breakfast and packed the car, it was 9:00 am. As you can see, we started the day in dense fog. Temps were in the 40’s all day with periods of light rain. The sun peeked out occasionally but not for long. Our first stop was at Yoder’s, a country store with tons of wonderful “stuff.” Hubby and I bought thank you gifts, stocking stuffers and a pecan pie for us. Their variety and quality meats, cheeses, pastas, breads, jams, candies, nuts, kitchen gadgets, spices and desserts are phenomenal. Had to really show self restraint in there. But our car was overloaded already (row 2/col 1). It will take a day or two to empty it and separate all our purchases from the last three weeks, mostly gifts for others. Along our route, we passed derelict and prosperous farms, factories, the Blue Ridge mountains, rolling pastures, small towns, etc. We stopped at the VA welcome center/rest area and I grabbed the “love” shot to liven up the collage. The roads were in pretty good shape; we saw a bit of road widening and resurfacing which caused miles of back ups, on the southbound side thankfully. We had lunch at Macado’s, one of our favorites for variety and quality. They always have a whimsical display outside and vintage decorations abound inside. We’ve passed many of those red berry covered shrubs. At 70 mph, I could not identify them. We are still over three hours away from home but it will be dark soon so picture taking is over for the day. Thanks for all the hearts and kind comments recently. I am almost caught up with your journals. Have a wonderful weekend, stay safe and healthy.
