In the dark and light
I finally got a five mile walk done today. I found a new to me hiking group, Girls Who Hike South Carolina, that plans hikes all over the state. The walk was actually on the Palmetto Trail at Newberry, 30 minutes away, but a part of the trail that I had not walked before as it goes along the main highway and through town on concrete sidewalks... as you know I like dirt trails and trees! We had 12 people walking today. Some retired and some younger ladies.
I saw this Christmas ornament hanging on a magnolia tree along the street. I was surprised that several of the group walked right under it without even seeing it. Just goes to show me that they were more into the walking from point A to B than the observing what was in front of their face. I also found a heart in the sidewalk. (in the extras) I pointed this out to my walking buddy and of course she said "how did you ever see that!?" Practice observing what is.
I started out at the head of the group but because of taking photos I ended up bringing up the rear with another walker who was slower than the others and was feeling the five miles in her legs!
Another hike is planned for Saturday but I don't remember if it is this Saturday or next. I hope it works out that I can go. There are also some hikes in the upstate that I might hike as this is with different hikers but the same group. Looking forward to getting some walking time in the woods.
Jerry is progressing well with his knee. He uses the walker and the cane but I can tell that he still does not feel really steady enough for the cane full time. Maybe by the end of the week.
