Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Some good finds!

Watched some of the Trooping of the Colour this morning. Always a super spectacle. But once Elizabeth had taken Archie away for his treat day, we took a wander down to Tolcross for a look around. It's not an area that we spend a lot of time in, being on the way home or into town. But we'd heard of a wee new place, checked out the website and menu, and took a wander down to investigate further.

It really did look good! But it was closed for a private function. We asked if perhaps they wouldn't notice us there, mingling, but the staff were insistent. Another time. The platters looked fantastic.

We walked further down the road and popped into a cafe (Comb) we've been passing for ages. And it was very good. Terrific ciabatta toasted sandwiches, and very good coffee. We'll be back!

As we wandered back up the road, we came across another new venue, a pub that has had a change of owner, and it's very quirky, very quiet muzak, dog friendly, amiable staff and an excellent lunch menu. We booked for next week.

So - a very successful mooch round the neighbourhood - with THREE promising new venues!

Elizabeth and Archie arrived home, and then Pip was dropped off to be with us this evening - his mum and dad have gone to a Fleetwood Mac tribute band concert, and Abi's not even a fan. I certainly am, and well remember seeing them live in Western Springs in Auckland in 1977. The following week everyone was sunburned down the right side of their face and their right arm. Those were the days...
