Singing’ In The Rain

Barrow Raiders rugby were hosting “Love Barrow Aid” today, a fund raising event benefitting various local charities.
A total 8 bands/acts had been booked and the headliners were Olly Murs and Bruno Mars tribute acts, due on around 9 tonight.
We were the second act to perform and we were on at 3 and off by 4. We know our place!
Sadly, the crowds this afternoon were not large - probably due to the atrocious weather. Ranging from drizzle to downpour it was a battle to keep the gear - and ourselves - dry. Fortunately a backline, drum kit, mics and monitors were all supplied, along with the services of a sound engineer. But the stage had a few leaks in the roof and when it rained heavily it blew into your face if you ventured too close to the front of the stage. Quite glad I was using wireless for my guitar and didn’t have to hold a mic at any point - there were several puddles on the stage by the end of our set. Very enjoyable though, just turning up, plugging in and starting to play - and the get out was even quicker. If only all gigs could be like that!
Seemed to go down well with those who had braved the weather. People were dancing and waving in the stands and a few hardy souls even braved the drizzle to bop around in the mosh pit. That’s if six people in front of the stage can be called a mosh pit lol!
The weather was improving slightly as we were leaving and I hope more people will come along this evening. Entry is by donation so the bigger the crowd, the more will be raised for the charities.
Obviously, not turning up until this evening means they will have missed the majestic sight and sounds of Route 66 blasting through their set! Still, I’m sure “Olly” and “Bruno” will not disappoint.
