Summer’s End
When I went outside this morning, it hit me. Summer is almost over. Seeing all these butterfly wings at the base of the butterfly bush was sad. There had been so many swallowtails enjoying nectar just a few days ago. Even most of those that have survived are showing wear and tear now. The bush has more spent flowers than new blooms. The black eyed Susans are almost completely finished. This mammoth sunflower is simply just a shell of its magnificent self. All of these specimens are good candidates for Derelict Sunday but it’s what I have for today. Kim doesn’t need me at her house until around 4:00 pm. That gave me almost another full day at home. And I have used it wisely. The perishable items are gathered in boxes ready to be moved to coolers Monday morning. I only have one last minute load of laundry left to do. Plants are watered, birds are fed, bird baths are full, kitty supplies are assembled for Chase, everything is packed. Stress will be minimal. Hubby considered trading in his 16 year old truck today. New vehicles are priced so foolishly. He found a 2020 low mileage Tundra that really looked like a possible replacement. He is a hard sell. He’d done a ton of research and was ready to trade. But it is a dealer’s market. They lost the sale by not being willing to give the customer a reason to trade. Our current very low mileage truck looks and acts brand new so it was easy to walk away. He just considered a trade while they still sell vehicles with towing power. I will go over and feed Trek on our way to Mass. Hubby has a Knight’s function after Mass; I will head to Kim’s for the night. Stay safe. Thank you so much for your comforting thoughts when you visited my journal yesterday. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your weekend. “August is that last flicker of fun and heat before everything fades and dies.” ~ Rasmenia Massoud
