A Polar Welcome

Edinburgh may have said a good bye today to its pandas and sent them packing back to China in huge metal crates with a supply of bamboo and their very own vet but the Ivy in the Square has acquired its very own polar bear to welcome guests as they approach the door. It did look extraordinarily happy despite the horrible dreich drizzle which afflicted the capital today. Inside the café it was busy but a warm and welcoming place to exchange Christmas gifts with my friend Alyson.

The spirit of Christmas must have been upon the staff as we both got an extra latte and toast on the house. We could hardly believe our good fortune since we sat the longest with the cheapest fare on the menu. Ours not to reason why!

The drizzle was particularly heavy as I walked home to the Post Office and the queue there particularly long as I waited to post a parcel. The postage was almost as dear as the parcel contents.
