Blipmeet No 2
We had arranged to meet up with Rob this afternoon, and as I perused the city map this morning, I noted that the 14 bus went to the meeting point, and at the other end, it went to the National Gallery and Botanic Gardens. The day was planned!
The National Gallery was a revelation! It is a classic 19th century grand building set in a grand parkland. But a new addition at the back is modern and is the most amazing gallery space. Huge walls of glass looking out on the lakes and park.
The modern art wasn't too way out, but was interesting and fun. There were humungous lumps of beaten copper shapes strewn along the entire ground floor. Oh look! There's a huge toe. And there's a huge finger. We then watched the video by the artist. He had made moulds of a life life sized mock-up of the Statue of Liberty!
After our picnic lunch at the gallery, we hopped on the 14 bus heading south, where we met up with Rob. He took us on a blip walk, and what fun it was. We went through one of his favourite places- a huge and very beautiful cemetery, the likes of which I've never seen before. It was a parkland, full of trees and ponds and sculptures. And wildlife. Rob arranged for a heron to be sitting waiting for us. And a family of eight teeny tiny ducklings in a beautiful pond full of pink waterlilies. AND a red squirrel (in the distance).
We ended up back in Boxland, where we had a couple of beers and another chinwag (above the rap music blasting out from the 'beach').
TAK, Rob. It was fun. I had to blip you and Mr Heron. We have a blipsnap!!
