Diary of an Edinburgher

Spikes!

VERY cold today - still frosty when Archie and JR ventured out about 10.30 - we really appreciate that he's not a 'morning person dog'...

I have sent for anti-roosting spikes for those damn pigeons. That'll fix 'em. Not only do they eat all the food meant for the wee sparrows, they loosen the whole bird station, which is just jammed into a log stump, and it wobbles wildly when a big fat pigeon lands on it. And when two of them land on it and have a wee fight, it's in danger of toppling right over. Into our window...

JR has been checking out YouTube videos of how to make scones. Wish I'd done that before my big sticky mess yesterday. Funnily enough, when we came back from our chilly walk today, there was a box of scones on the doorstep (thanks Christine). They were so cute, and so unlike my efforts, that I have included a photo in extras. The peely-wally ones were on the bottom shelf and didn't cook properly.

We went up the Hill, and the light was lovely - dark brooding snow skies over in Fife, but sunshine on the city and Arthur's Seat. We walked up the wee hill to see the snow on the Pentlands, but there was hardly any!

By the time JR and Archie went up to the summit, the light on the city had gone, but JR took lots of photos, though she complained that the camera kept doing odd things - (switching to 'pano', 'video', 'slo-mo' and 'selfie' seemingly at random') and she sometimes forgets about her finger across the screen. I had a good chuckle when I looked at the photos, but couldn't use any this time. But thanks anyway, JR.

Enjoying Rick Stein's 'Long Weekends' - we really fancy Bologna and Lisbon, based on the food. Reykjavik does NOT appeal. He's heading to Copenhagen tonight, though we love the city, we're not too keen on New Nordic Cuisine of foraged food with a few flowers and leaves, costing a small fortune, and leaving one in need of a burger and chips.
